Sveinung Nygaard (b. 1954, Stavanger) lives in Sandnes, and works at Klepp, Norway. For over 30 years, he has been an active contributor to the Norwegian art scene as an art mediator. Nygaard has held various roles, including founder, chairman, gallery director, curator, and exhibition technician. He began his career on the northwest coast of Norway before working with Galleri Gann and Hå gamle prestegard, as well as in projects at Sølvberget Galleri and Kunsthall Stavanger. Throughout his career, he has built a strong and dynamic network of local and national artists and gallerists, with whom he continues to maintain regular contact and collaboration.
As an artist, Nygaard primarily works in painting, drawing, sculpture, and installation. He also creates temporary land art projects, always with a deep consideration for nature, people, and animals. A recurring theme in his work is the proximity to nature and the exploration of time—both past and present. He describes his creative process as a collaboration, and at times a struggle, between himself and the materials. It is a physical and emotional journey, where the artwork emerges from the tension between control and intuition.
