Mara Sola
Mara Sola (b. 1975) is a Spanish visual artist who has lived in Norway since 2012. She holds a BA Honours in Art and Design, specializing in painting, from Atlantic University in Galway, Ireland, as well as a teaching qualification from the University of Stavanger. Since 2016, she has had her studio at Tou Scene in Stavanger.
Although painting is her main medium, Sola’s artistic practice also includes installations and object sculptures. She uses nature, landscapes, and living creatures as metaphors for the human psyche, drawing inspiration from transpersonal psychology and the interplay between nature and human longing. Sola’s works explore how different landscapes affect us psychologically – both through external surroundings and internal states.
She has held several solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions in Ireland, as well as shown her work in England, the USA, and Norway. Her works have been acquired by both public institutions and private collectors, and in 2010 she was awarded the Emerging Artist prize by Visual Arts Ireland. Sola is a member of the Norwegian Visual Artists Association (NBK) and Visual Artists in Rogaland (BKFR).
