Katharina Bjelland
Katharina Bjelland is a Stavanger-based visual artist originally from Germany. Working with found materials, text, print, and sculpture, her practice explores themes of desire, consumerism and middle-class aspiration. Bjelland investigates the daily struggle to balance and optimise work, domestic labour, and leisure—under the persistent pressure to raise one’s standard of living in a culture driven by consumption. Her work delves into the interconnected aspects of labour, economic freedom, and social hierarchy. She conducts an ongoing inquiry into the division of domestic responsibilities, exploring how individual needs, societal expectations, and power structures shape life within both households and broader society.
Bjelland graduated from art school in Stavanger in 2021 and is a member of NBK, the Norwegian Visual Artists Association. She also has a master’s degree in business administration and has lived in Germany, London and Shanghai before moving to Norway. Bjelland enjoys her contribution on boards of local art associations and thrives by being involved in the international art scene through working at Kunsthall Stavanger and assisting the American artist Cory Arcangel in his studio.
