I collect and work with a variety of reusable materials and objet trouvé, incorporating traditional textile, in order to explore visual connections. Meaning and resonance comes from layering different textures, techniques, materials and text to form pieces of art that build on collective or personal memories, time passing and stories.
Various elements cross and combine in ways that are not defined by high or low value, but contribute to an equal visual structure. The works can be interpreted as a strategy for how to orientate oneself and find an anchor in a chaotic and complex world, and of caring for process and residues.
My working method; bricolage, in many ways echoes and builds upon my childhood memories of growing up at a farm with its various activities, seasonal rhythms and multiple sensory influences.
When this investigative, deconstructive and reconstructive method is used in the visual arts, thoughts are also directed to the ’redundancy’ mentality of today’s society, and to questions about how we can better use and take care of our resources. The processes and the actions of caring and reuse define my artwork and become part of their meaning.
